Chapter 6 - The Storm Breaks

The thunderstorm over Roosevelt Island raged with apocalyptic fury. Lightning illuminated the Gothic stone towers of Saint Jude’s Asylum as Michael, armed with heavy body armor and a tactical team, breached the facility's security perimeter.
Floor by floor, they neutralized Victoria's private mercenaries. Michael moved like a man possessed, driven by ten years of accumulated guilt and burning fury.
Finally, on the subterranean floor, he kicked open the doors to Operating Room 4.
There, strapped to a cold steel gurney under bright surgical lights, was Elena. Her face was pale, her dark hair matted, but her eyes—those beautiful, resilient green eyes—were open. Victoria stood beside a doctor holding a loaded syringe.
"Get away from her!" Michael screamed, raising his weapon.
Victoria gasped, dropping the syringe as Michael’s guards disarmed the doctor and subdued the staff.
Michael rushed to the gurney, his fingers frantically unbuckling the leather straps holding Elena down. "Elena... Elena, it’s me. I’m here."
Elena looked up at him, her body shivering uncontrollably. Tears streamed down her hollow cheeks. "Michael...? No... please don't hurt me... don't take my babies..."
"I'm not hurting you! I was a fool, Elena! A blind, monstrous fool!" Michael collapsed to his knees beside the gurney, sobbing violently as he pulled her frail hand to his face. "I know everything now. I know what my mother did. I know what Victoria did. And I found them, Elena... I found our four little girls. They are safe!"
Elena’s eyes widened with sudden, overwhelming emotion. "Chloe? Clara? Cleo? Cami? They’re... they're safe?"
"They are safe, warm, and waiting for you," Michael wept, kissing her bruised knuckles. "Can you ever forgive me?"
Elena touched his silver-streaked hair, a soft, heartbreaking smile breaking through her exhaustion. "I never stopped loving you, Michael. Even in the dark... I knew one day you would see the truth."
Suddenly, the asylum alarm blared! Emergency red lights flashed across the ceiling.
Victoria, kneeling on the floor in handcuffs, began to laugh hysterically. "You’re too late, Michael! The shareholder meeting started fifteen minutes ago! Eleanor is executing the final merger right now! By 11:30 PM, all Harrington and Vance assets will be transferred to an offshore trust in the Cayman Islands! You’ll be left penniless, and the police are on their way here to arrest you for kidnapping and corporate espionage!"

Michael stood up, his eyes blazing with a dangerous, lethal calm.
"Then let's go to a board meeting," Michael said cold as ice.
