Chapter 12 - The Midnight EvictionWith the estate officially transferred into my name, I didn't waste a single hour exercising my new legal rights.

Richard had been secretly crashing in the guest house of Evelyn’s plantation, assuming he could hide out from process servers and federal investigators. He was pouring whiskey into a crystal tumbler when my security team—accompanied by two county deputies—marched up the grand mahogany staircase.

Richard looked up from his leather armchair, his eyes bloodshot, his shirt unbuttoned at the collar.

"Margaret?" he rasped, spilling half his drink onto the Persian rug. "What is this? You can't be here. This is my mother's house!"

"It was your mother's house, Richard," I said, stepping into the study with my hands folded neatly in front of my blazer. "Now, it's mine. Every square foot of it. Every painting, every piece of silver, and every floorboard."

"That's impossible!" he screamed, lunging to his feet. "Mom loved me! I'm her only son!"

"Your mother loved intelligence, hard work, and loyalty—three things you traded away for a marketing director in a cream suit," I replied coldly. "You have thirty minutes to pack your designer suits into trash bags before the county sheriff escorts you off the property."

Richard stared at me, his face twisting with a mixture of impotent rage and absolute terror as the final walls of his empire crumbled into dust.
