Chloe stood beside me near the brick fountain, dressed in a simple emerald dress, her eyes clear and focused. She had spent the last twelve months working in my firm as a junior investigator, learning the value of hard work, independence, and absolute integrity.
"Mom," Chloe said softly, handing me a glass of sparkling cider as the sun began to dip below the horizon, painting the sky in brilliant shades of gold and amber. "Thank you for not giving up on me."
