Chapter 15 - A Dangerous GambleAdrian stared down the barrel of the Director’s gun, his expression entirely unreadable.

“You think arresting me saves your syndicate, Director?” Adrian asked, his voice calm, steady, and dangerously low. “The moment that drive connects to the DOJ mainframe, it doesn't just expose me. It exposes every politician, every judge, and every federal official on your payroll—starting with you.”
Director Vance’s finger twitched on the trigger, sweat beading on his forehead. “You’re bluffing.”
“Try me,” Adrian challenged, taking one slow, deliberate step forward. “Press the trigger. And watch your entire career, your freedom, and your family name burn to ashes right along with mine.”
For three agonizing seconds, the air in the penthouse felt thick enough to suffocate them both.
Then, the heavy sound of boots echoing up the emergency stairwell shattered the silence.
“Federal Marshals! Open the door!” a voice shouted from the corridor.
Realizing he was trapped between Adrian’s bluff and closing backup, Director Vance hesitated—and in that fraction of a second, Adrian moved.

With blinding speed, Adrian slapped the gun barrel aside, drove his palm upward into the Director’s chin, and snatched the cryptographic drive back as Vance stumbled backward into the mahogany desk, losing consciousness.
Adrian didn't look back. He vaulted over the balcony railing onto the exterior window-washing rig, hitting the descent button just as the heavy oak doors of the study burst open.
