Chapter 6 - The Betrayal of the Right HandThe bulletproof glass of the ground-floor security corridor shattered in a shower of brilliant, diamond-like shards as an explosive charge blew the service entrance off its hinges.

Smoke billowed through the hallways, tinted red by the emergency backup strobes.
Adrian moved through the shadows of the west wing like a ghost, his Sig Sauer raised, every muscle in his body coiled for combat. He had trusted Salvatore Rizzi for fifteen years. Sal had pulled him out of crossfires, covered his blind spots, and stood beside him through every blood-soaked war for control of New York.
The idea that Sal had betrayed him wasn't just a shock—it felt like a physical amputation.
Adrian rounded the corner toward the main computer terminal room, pressing his back against the mahogany wall. Through the reinforced glass window, he could see the silhouette of a man standing before the glowing blue server racks.
It was Salvatore.
Beside him stood Marcus Vance, calmly typing commands into the master terminal while downloading the entirety of the Moretti financial archives onto a secure encrypted hard drive.
Adrian stepped through the shattered doorway, his pistol leveled squarely at Salvatore’s chest.
“Fifteen years, Sal,” Adrian’s voice cut through the hum of the cooling fans, cold enough to freeze blood. “I gave you half my kingdom. I trusted you with my life.”
Salvatore didn't flinch. He slowly turned around, resting his hands casually in the pockets of his tailored wool coat, a faint, cynical smile playing at the corners of his mouth.
“You gave me a cage, Adrian,” Salvatore replied smoothly. “You’ve grown soft. You spend your days worrying about old debts, dead mothers, and now… you’re letting a stray housekeeper and her brat dictate the emotional state of the most powerful syndicate boss in America.”
“This isn't about weakness, Sal. This is about loyalty,” Adrian snarled, his finger tightening slightly on the trigger. “And you traded it all to partner with a hack like Marcus Vance?”
“Marcus offered me something you lost years ago, Adrian—vision,” Salvatore said, his eyes narrowing dangerously. “You wanted to retire into legitimate shipping, playing corporate executive while our rivals swallowed us whole. Marcus wants to rule the entire East Coast. And all it takes is erasing your legacy.”
Before Salvatore could finish his sentence, Marcus Vance whipped a concealed pistol from his waistband and aimed it directly at Adrian’s blind spot.
“Drop your weapon, Adrian,” Marcus sneered.
Adrian didn't look at Marcus. His eyes never left Salvatore’s face.
“You taught me everything I know about survival, Sal,” Adrian whispered, his voice dangerously calm. “Except one thing.”
“What’s that?” Salvatore asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Never turn your back on a Moretti.”

Bang.
The gunshot echoed like thunder in the enclosed server room.
