Chapter 3 - THE GHOST FROM THE PASTThe rain was coming down in sheets as Emma’s black town car pulled up outside an old, unassuming brownstone tucked away in the historic district of Brooklyn.

According to the encrypted metadata on the Swiss bank transfer, the IP address traced directly to this address—a building registered under a dormant shell corporation named Vanguard Holdings.

Emma stepped out under a large black umbrella, her heels clicking against the wet pavement. She climbed the stone steps and pressed the heavy brass doorbell.

Ding-dong.

For a full minute, nothing happened. The windows were dark, covered by heavy velvet drapes.

Just as Emma turned to leave, the heavy oak door clicked open an inch. A skeletal, pale hand gripped the edge of the door, pulling it wide.

A man stood in the shadows. He was in his late sixties, with deep lines etched into his face, silver hair, and piercing grey eyes that looked hauntingly familiar.

Emma stopped breathing.

"Dad?" she whispered, dropping her umbrella onto the porch.

The elderly man stared at her, his lips trembling. He reached out a trembling hand, touching her cheek. "Emma... my little girl. You shouldn't have come here. They’re watching."

Before Emma could step inside to embrace him, a blinding pair of headlights cut through the rain!
