Chapter 4 - THE AMBUSH ON BROOKLYN STREETBefore Emma could react, a strong pair of arms wrapped around her waist, tackling her hard behind the stone porch pillar as a hail of gunfire shattered the brownstone’s front windows!

CRASH! SHARDS OF GLASS EXPLODED EVERYWHERE!

"Dad!" Emma screamed, crawling toward the open door!

"He's secure! I got him!" a deep, gravelly voice yelled from inside the hallway.

Emma looked up and gasped. Pulling her father back into the safety of the foyer was not a hired thug—it was Marcus Vance, Nathan’s former head of private security, whom Nathan had fired a week ago.

"Marcus?!" Emma yelled over the sound of automatic gunfire. "What are you doing here?!"

"Saving your life, Mrs. Sterling," Marcus barked, pulling a suppressed pistol from his jacket and returning fire through the shattered window. "Nathan isn't the master-mind here. He’s just an errand boy for the syndicate that faked your father’s death twenty-five years ago!"

Inside the hallway, her father—Arthur Sterling—coughed violently, clutching a oxygen tank beside him. He looked at Emma with tear-filled eyes.

"They didn't just want the company, Emma," her father wheezed. "They wanted the cryptographic keys to the global satellite network your grandfather built. And Celeste... Celeste isn't just a mistress. She is Julian Sterling’s niece—the man who tried to assassinate me in Zurich!"
