Chapter 2 - The Rowan Vanguard SecretSabrina’s professional composure fractured first. She leaned forward, her eyes darting between Clara and Nathan, panic flickering behind her carefully contoured features.

"Wait," Sabrina stammered, her voice pitching up slightly. "Nathan, who is this? Is this the venture partner? I thought Rowan Vanguard's managing director was an anonymous trust—"
"It is," Clara replied smoothly, sliding a leather-bound folio across the white tablecloth and opening it to the first page. She finally turned her dark, unblinking eyes toward Sabrina. Nathan felt the floor drop out from beneath his shoes.
"Clara," he choked out, his hands trembling as he gripped the edge of the table. "You... you are Rowan Vanguard? You funded the portfolio expansions? You’ve been the mysterious backer keeping Nexora afloat for the last two years?"
"For three years, actually," Clara corrected, uncapping a heavy silver fountain pen. "Ever since you took out a second mortgage on our primary residence behind my back to fund your first failed software pivot. My father left me a private equity portfolio specifically so I would never have to depend on a man who confused ambition with competence."

"When you told me you were flying to Seattle for a pitch meeting this morning, Nathan, I found it amusing," Clara continued, her tone conversational, almost bored. "Mostly because the Seattle office was closed three months ago due to your zoning violations. So when you requested this private dining room for a 'critical investor presentation,' I decided to RSVP."
