I stood at the podium, wearing an emerald-green silk gown that caught the flashbulbs of dozens of major news cameras. My voice carried clear, steady, and commanding across the packed room, devoid of any past shadow.
"For years, many of us are taught to shrink ourselves to fit inside someone else's expectations," I spoke into the microphone, locking eyes with the journalists and survivors seated in the audience.
