Chapter 1 - The Ambulance Ride to SurvivalThe doors of the ambulance slammed shut, sealing me inside a sterile, vibrating metal box that smelled intensely of antiseptic and old rubber. The paramedic, a sharp-eyed woman named Sarah, pressed an oxygen mask over my face.

"Stay with me, Mrs. Sterling! Keep your eyes open," she commanded, her voice cutting through the roaring sound in my ears.

My vision blurred, the fluorescent lights of the ceiling shifting into white streaks. Every breath felt like inhaling crushed glass, and the agonizing cramp in my lower abdomen was no longer just a contraction—it was a relentless, tearing pain. I was bleeding out, and the hospital I had trusted, the one my husband owned, had nearly killed us both.

"BP is dropping, 80 over 50 and falling!" another paramedic shouted from the front seat. "We're five minutes out from Dallas General. Push two liters of saline, fast!"

The vehicle lurched as the driver took a sharp corner at high speed, the sirens wailing an agonizing soundtrack to my terror. I gripped the edges of the stretcher, my knuckles turning bone-white.

My baby. Please, God, let my baby survive.

My mind flashed back to the hospital hallway, to the blinding flash of cameras and Julian’s radiant, fraudulent smile as he cradled Sienna’s newborn. He had traded our lives for a marketing campaign. He had gambled our child’s heartbeat for a PR stunt to boost the Sterling Maternity Center's luxury brand.

A tear escaped the corner of my eye and slid hot down my temple. The sorrow vanished, instantly incinerated by a cold, white-hot fury. Julian loved power, prestige, and his flawless public image above all else. He thought he was untouchable because he owned the building, the doctors, and the narrative.

He had no idea what I owned.

As the ambulance tires screeched to a halt in the trauma bay of Dallas General, medical staff swarmed the doors like a hive of angry bees. Bright lights blinded me as I was wheeled into a chaotic symphony of shouts, beeping monitors, and rushing feet.

"Emergency C-section, stat!" a doctor yelled, his face inches from mine. "Prep the OR immediately!"

As they hoisted me onto the operating table and the sweet, heavy scent of anesthesia closed in over my face, my final thought wasn't fear. It was a vow.

Julian, enjoy your moment in the spotlight. Because when I wake up, I am going to take everything away from you.
