Chapter 5 - The Fall of the Sterling EmpireThe boardroom of the Sterling Maternity Center was dead silent, save for the hum of the air conditioning.

Julian sat at the head of the long mahogany table, looking like a ghost of the man he had been a week ago. His hair was disheveled, his designer suit wrinkled, and dark, bruised circles framed his bloodshot eyes. The emergency board meeting he had demanded was not to rally support, but to face his execution.

The heavy double doors swung open, and Eleanor walked in, followed by two armed security guards and a court bailiff. She didn't look at Julian as she walked straight to the podium, placing a single manila folder on the glass surface.

"Good morning, gentlemen," Eleanor announced to the terrified board members. "Effective immediately, Julian Sterling is permanently removed as CEO, director, and shareholder of the Sterling Maternity Center."

Julian shot out of his chair, slamming his hands onto the table. "You have no legal right to do that! This is a hostile takeover! I built this company from the ground up!"

"You built it on sand, Julian," a cold, calm voice echoed from the doorway.

The entire room turned as I walked into the boardroom. I wore a crisp, tailored ivory trench coat, oversized sunglasses, and carried myself with an aura of unshakable authority. Marcus walked a step behind me, holding baby Lyra securely against his chest in a soft carrier.

Julian’s jaw dropped so low it looked like it might unhinge. Color drained completely from his face, leaving him a sickening, chalky white.

"Clara..." he whispered, his voice trembling as he stared at me in sheer disbelief. "You... you were in the hospital... you were bleeding..."

"And I survived, Julian," I said, stepping up to the edge of the table and removing my sunglasses. My gaze locked onto his with the freezing intensity of an Arctic winter. "Unlike your career."

"This... this is impossible," Julian stammered, looking frantically around the table at the board members, who all refused to meet his eyes. "You can't do this to me! I'm your husband!"

"Not anymore," Eleanor stated clearly, sliding the divorce papers and the ownership transfer deed right in front of him. "Sign over your remaining assets, surrender your keys, and vacate the premises within the hour. If you resist, we press criminal charges for medical endangerment and fraud."

Julian fell back into his chair, trembling violently. He looked at the documents, then up at me, seeing the absolute ice in my eyes. The man who had once treated me like an inconvenient accessory now realized he was entirely at my mercy.

With shaking, broken hands, Julian picked up the pen and signed his name away.
