Chapter 8 - The Desperate GambleJulian was living in a cheap, rundown extended-stay motel on the outskirts of the city, eating takeout noodles off a wobbly plastic table. The mighty healthcare mogul had been reduced to dodging calls from creditors and facing the very real possibility of bankruptcy fraud charges.

His phone buzzed loudly against the Formica table.
He glanced at the screen, expecting another angry text from a debt collector. Instead, it was an incoming call from an unknown, encrypted number.
He hesitated, then swiped to answer. "Hello?"
"Julian," a voice whispered through the speaker—soft, trembling, and unmistakably Sienna.
Julian’s heart leaped into his throat. "Sienna! Oh, thank God. Please, you have to listen to me, Clara staged the whole thing, she ruined me, but if we stick together—"
"Shut up, Julian," Sienna interrupted, her voice dripping with venom. "I know everything. I know about the forged emails from college. I know you only married her for her money, and I know you were just using my baby as a PR stunt."
Silence hung heavily on the line. Julian froze, the phone slipping slightly in his sweaty palm. The game was up. There was nowhere left to hide.
"Sienna... please, let me explain—" Julian choked out, panic creeping into his voice.
"There’s nothing to explain," Sienna hissed. "But... I might be able to help you. The board left a secret contingency trust fund in an offshore account during the merger. If you can access it, we can leave the country together tonight. Start over somewhere new."
Julian’s eyes lit up with desperate, manic hope. A secret offshore account? It sounded like a lifeline. "Where? How do I access it?"
"Clara left her laptop unlocked in her former office at the center. There's a master admin override code saved on her desktop. If you break in tonight and transfer the funds to my account, I'll meet you at the private airfield at midnight. We can run away, just like the old days."
"Tonight. Midnight. I'll do it," Julian whispered, blinded by greed and absolute desperation.

He didn't know that Sienna was sitting right across from me in my living room, watching me smile as I muted my phone speaker and gave her a silent thumbs-up.
The trap was baited. The rat was heading straight for the cage.
