Chapter 14 - THE INTERROGATION ROOMThe downtown precinct interrogation room smelled of stale coffee, industrial floor wax, and decades of shattered alibis.

I sat on one side of the metal table, wearing a crisp black blazer, while Sophie stood quietly by the door with her arms crossed. Across from us, handcuffed to the bolted steel ring in the center of the table, sat Derek. His lip was swollen from the takedown, and his eyes burned with pure, unadulterated hatred.
"You had me arrested," Derek spat, leaning forward as far as the cuffs would allow. "You actually had your own brother thrown in a holding cell like a common criminal!"
"You broke into my building with a deadly weapon, Derek," I replied, my voice steady, calm, and utterly chilling. "That isn't a family dispute anymore. That's attempted burglary and stalking with aggravating circumstances."
"Drop the charges, Naomi," he hissed, lowering his voice into a venomous threat. "Drop the charges right now, or I swear to God I will drag Mom and Dad down into the dirt with me. I'll tell the prosecutors everything about how Mom helped me forge the tax documents. I'll make sure they spend their final years in a federal penitentiary!"
I didn't blink. I didn't flinch.

"You think threatening Mom is going to work on me?" I leaned forward, resting my forearms on the table, locking my gaze directly into his terrified eyes. "Derek, Mom called me a parasite and threw me onto the street with two cardboard boxes while you and your kids laughed from the driveway. Whatever happens to them now is the harvest of the seeds they planted."
Derek’s face went pale. The arrogant tech-bro facade completely dissolved, leaving behind a pathetic, desperate man realizing he had finally pushed his victim past the point of breaking.
