Chapter 20 - THE UNBREAKABLE HORIZONThat evening, I left the office early and drove down to the coastal bluffs overlooking the crashing Pacific waves just outside the city limits.

The sun was sinking low beneath the horizon, painting the sky in brilliant shades of violet, amber, and deep crimson. The salty ocean breeze caught my hair as I stood at the edge of the overlook, breathing in the cool, clean air.

My phone buzzed in my coat pocket.

I pulled it out, expecting a client notification or an administrative update. Instead, it was a reminder alert I had set for myself six months ago, right after the final gavel dropped in the county courthouse.

"Remember who you were when they called you a parasite. And never let anyone make you feel small again."

I smiled, locking the screen and slipping the phone back into my pocket.

The past was gone. The Oak Ridge house was a distant memory. The toxic anchors that had tried to drag me down into financial and emotional ruin were safely locked away where they belonged.

I turned around, walked back to my car, and drove forward into the bright, unwritten horizon of a life that was finally, completely, and unconditionally my own.
