Chapter 2 - The Billionaire’s NightmareEthan Cole was sleeping off a heavy hangover in his penthouse suite overlooking the city's financial district. At twenty-one, he believed the world was an oyster served on a silver platter, bought and paid for by his father’s conglomerate, Cole Global Logistics. Breaking a scholarship student’s jaw hadn’t even registered as a blip on his radar—just collateral damage for crossing paths with royalty.

At 3:14 AM, the penthouse's ultra-secure smart home system began to malfunction.

The lights flickered from warm ambient gold to a harsh, blinding crimson. Every television screen, laptop, and tablet across the three-floor apartment simultaneously woke up, displaying a single, looping video file: high-definition footage of Ethan and his friends dragging Lily into the dark alley behind the campus library, laughing as Ethan delivered the devastating blow with a heavy brass ring.

Ethan bolted upright, gasping for air, clutching his silk duvet. "What the hell...?" he muttered, scrambling for his phone.

His phone screen flashed white, overriding all manual controls. A single text message pushed through:

You forgot the security camera in the alley’s blind spot, Ethan. Money can buy a judge, but it can’t buy silence from the dead.

Panicking, Ethan dialed his father, Richard Cole, a man whose word moved stock markets and corrupted senators. It rang twice before a gruff, sleepy voice answered. "Ethan? Do you know what time it is?"

"Dad! Look at the news! Look at your screens!" Ethan shrieked, his voice cracking with adolescent terror. "Someone hacked the penthouse! They have the video! The real video!"

Before Richard could answer, a deafening alert tone echoed through the entire building. Down on the ground floor, automated alarms began to wail. Richard’s personal assistant broke onto the secondary line, screaming into the receiver.

"Mr. Cole! We're under cyber attack! Every cargo ship in the Pacific fleet has remotely locked down its navigation systems! The port authorities are seizing our docks because of unverified cargo manifests containing illegal munitions—planted simultaneously across all terminals! Stock is plummeting—we’ve lost four billion dollars in twenty minutes!"

Richard’s blood ran cold. He sat up in his bed thousands of miles away, his empire crumbling in real-time. "Who did this?" he demanded, his voice trembling for the first time in thirty years. "Find out who did this right now!"

High above the city, standing in the shadows of the water tower across the street from Ethan's penthouse, I lowered my binoculars. I tapped my earpiece.

"Phase one complete, Vega. How is Brandon Hale holding up?"

"Politically exposed and sweating bullets, Commander," Vega chuckled. "Shall we introduce him to the opposition?"
