Chapter 1 - The First Thread UnravelsThe hospital room smelled of antiseptic and quiet despair. Outside, the rain beat against the glass like a frantic Morse code. Inside, the rhythmic beep of the heart monitor was the only sound keeping me tethered to reality. Lily was resting under heavy sedatives, her jaw wired shut, her face bruised into horrifying shades of purple and yellow.

My phone buzzed against the bedside table. It was a burner device, encrypted with military-grade protocols that shouldn't have been accessible anywhere outside of a secure black-site server.
"Commander," the voice rasped through the speaker. It was Vega, the man who had managed my comms network back when the world still needed monsters to keep the peace. "We have the metadata. It wasn't just local cops who scrubbed the university footage. The deletion command came directly from a private server registered to Hale Enterprises. They wiped the campus cloud in under four minutes."
"And the local police chief?" I asked, my voice dangerously low, barely audible over the hum of the medical equipment.
"Chief Miller took a wire transfer of fifty thousand dollars forty minutes after Lily was admitted to the ER," Vega replied, typing furiously on the other end. "Routed through three offshore shell companies tied to the Whitmore Foundation. They thought they covered their tracks by using crypto mixers, but the blockchain remembers what corrupt men try to forget."
I looked down at Lily’s hand, bruised and frail in my palm. The warmth I had cultivated over nineteen years—the quiet life of a bookstore owner, the gentle laughter shared over Sunday pancakes, the mundane worries of college tuition—evaporated. Underneath the ashes, the cold, calculating machine known as The Ghost awakened.
"Good," I whispered. "Don't touch them yet. Let them feel safe. Let them think their money and political shields are impenetrable. I want the digital footprint preserved down to the last byte. Then, we strike at the foundation."

"Understood, Ghost. What's our first target?"
"Ethan Cole," I said, my eyes narrowing as I stared out the window into the rainy night. "The billionaire's son who thinks a trust fund can buy a clean conscience. Let's start with his father's precious shipping empire. Ruin his supply chains before dawn."
