Chapter 8 - The Public ExecutionThe local news broadcast broke into its regular programming with a blaring emergency banner across the screen:

BREAKING NEWS: MASSIVE CORRUPTION SCANDAL TOPPLES ELITE FAMILIES. COLE GLOBAL LOGISTICS COLLAPSES AMID FRAUD ALLEGATIONS. SENATOR THOMAS HALE ARRESTED BY FEDERAL AGENTS. WHITMORE DYNASTY IMPLODES AFTER VIRAL CONFESSION VIDEO.

On screen, the video of Tyler Whitmore sobbing and confessing to the assault on Lily, alongside the detailed bribery records of his father, played in high definition for millions of viewers across the country. The public outcry was instantaneous and overwhelming. Protesters gathered outside the Whitmore estate and the federal courthouse, demanding blood and accountability.

Lily stared at the television screen in shock, then slowly turned her head to look at me, her eyes wide with a mixture of awe and dawning realization.

"You... you did this?" she breathed.

Before I could answer, the door to the hospital room quietly clicked open.

Standing in the doorway was a tall, immaculate figure in a tailored charcoal suit—Director Vance of the International Intelligence Oversight Committee. A man who hadn't walked among the living in civilian hospitals for over two decades.

Vance looked at me with a solemn, respectful nod, then glanced briefly at Lily before speaking.

"It's done, Commander," Vance said formally. "The cleanup is complete. The board members are singing like canaries, and the media has enough ammunition to keep the legal machinery grinding for a decade. But... there's a complication."

I stood up slowly from Lily's bedside, stepping between the director and my daughter, narrowing my eyes. "What kind of complication?"

"Some remnants of the old syndicate—men who knew who you were before you vanished nineteen years ago—saw the digital footprint of the hack," Vance replied, his expression grave. "They recognized your signature code, Ghost. They know you're back."
