Chapter 4 - The Midnight ConfessionThe silence in the penthouse suite grew suffocating. Vivian stared between Julian and Anna, sensing a hidden war she had been entirely locked out of.

"Julian, what is she talking about?" Vivian demanded, stepping forward. "What murder?"

"Stay out of this, Vivian," Julian growled, never breaking eye contact with Anna. He walked around the desk, his jaw clenched so tight a muscle ticked in his cheek. "You think you have leverage? If you had proof, you would have gone to the police years ago. Why wait until now? Why infiltrate my home?"

"Because the police were bought, Mr. West. Just like everyone else in this city," Anna said, her voice trembling slightly with suppressed rage, though her eyes remained sharp. "I was twelve when my mother died. I watched her burn through her savings trying to fight your corporate lawyers after you stole her architectural designs for the West Tower. And the night before she was supposed to hand over the original blueprints to the press... her apartment exploded."

Julian’s expression hardened into stone. "An unfortunate gas leak. The fire department investigated—"

"The fire department was paid off by your father's administration!" Anna shot back, taking a step forward. "I found her safety deposit box key last year. Inside wasn't just drawings, Julian. It was a signed confession from the man who rigged the valves—a man who was mysteriously given a high-paying executive job in your overseas branch the very next week."

Julian felt the ground give way beneath him. The sins of his father—sins he had suspected but willfully ignored to inherit the West empire—were suddenly standing right in front of him, wearing an apron and holding his daughter’s heart.

"So why the theatrics tonight?" Julian asked, his voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. "Why target Sophie?"

Anna’s tough facade finally cracked, a genuine tear slipping down her cheek. "I didn't plan on it. I swear to God, I took the catering job just to see the monster who destroyed my family. But then... I found Sophie locked in the dark. Crying for a mother who isn't coming back. She reminded me of myself, sitting on my mother's floor, waiting for justice that never came. She loves me, Julian. And you? You don't even know what color her eyes are."

Before Julian could answer, a blinding flash illuminated the window.
