Desperate as his corporate takeover collapsed, Julian realized time was running out. At 2:00 AM, a blackout hit Saint Aurelia Medical Center’s private VIP wing. Emergency generators kicked in, bathing the corridors in eerie red alarm lights.
Four armed men disguised as elite trauma nurses slipped past the secondary security desk, heading directly toward the high-security nursery suite where Liam and Chloe were sleeping.
The lead gunman kicked the door open, raising a silenced pistol. "Grab the kids! We use them as leverage to force Audrey to sign the transfer—"
Before he could finish his sentence, the room lit up with blinding white floodlights.
The cribs in the center of the room were empty. In their place sat four tactical operators from the Vance Executive Protection Detail, heavy assault weapons drawn and aimed directly at the intruders' chests.
"Drop your weapons!" the commander roared.
The gunmen didn't even have a chance to raise their hands before they were slammed onto the floor, disarmed, and pinned down under heavy boots.
I stepped out from behind a reinforced security wall, accompanied by Alexander and the Chief of Police.
"Julian thought I wouldn't anticipate a dark-ops kidnapping?" I asked, looking down at the groveling mercenaries. "I transferred Liam and Chloe to our private estate three hours ago. You fell right into the perimeter trap."
