While Dominic was being dragged out of his former company in handcuffs by police officers executing the grand theft warrant, Natalie was sitting in an interrogation room at the 4th Precinct, sobbing hysterically.
I walked into the observation room behind the one-way mirror, accompanied by my private investigator, Marcus.
"She’s ready to break, Ms. Vance," Marcus said, handing me a manila folder. "As soon as the police mentioned a fifteen-year prison sentence for grand larceny and corporate conspiracy, she offered to sell Dominic out entirely. But that’s not the most interesting thing we found."
I opened the folder. Inside were medical records and private communications from an offshore fertility clinic.
"Explain," I said.
"Dominic believed Natalie was seven months pregnant with his child," Marcus chuckled darkly. "He used her pregnancy as the main excuse to abandon you and demand a divorce. But our medical team pulled Natalie’s private obstetric records from her previous clinic. Dominic is completely sterile due to a severe bout of mumps he suffered in his early twenties."
I stared at the medical report in absolute shock. "Dominic is sterile?"
"Completely," Marcus confirmed. "Natalie knew this. She’s been sleeping with Julian Hayes—Dominic’s chief corporate rival. The baby she is carrying belongs to Julian. She was angling to get Dominic to sign over your trust money so she and Julian could bankrupt him and run away together."

I looked through the glass at Natalie, who was clutching her stomach and crying to the detectives. A cold, dark smile spread across my face.
"Don't tell Dominic yet," I whispered. "I want to break his heart in court."
