Chapter 18 - The Exile

The silence in the boardroom was so absolute that the hum of the overhead ventilation sounded like a jet engine.
Vincent didn't raise his voice, but every word he spoke carried the crushing weight of absolute corporate authority.
“For years, you used this company as a weapon to control everyone around you,” Vincent said, his dark eyes locked onto his mother’s pale face. “You tried to destroy my marriage, you manufactured fake probate claims against my wife, and you colluded with a convicted felon to stage a hostile takeover.”
“I built this company—” Eleanor started, her voice cracking with sudden panic.
“You helped build it, yes,” Vincent interrupted coldly. “And now, you are going to dismantle your own influence. Under Section 8 of the Hale Holdings corporate charter, any board member convicted of or complicit in malicious corporate sabotage and fraudulent litigation is subject to immediate expulsion and forfeiture of voting shares.”
He slid a second document across the table—a resignation agreement accompanied by an irrevocable share-transfer order.
“You can sign this quietly, retire to your estate in Palm Beach, and receive your annual dividends without public humiliation,” Vincent said softly. “Or you can let me hand these files directly to the U.S. Attorney’s office and watch the media tear your legacy apart by tomorrow morning.”
Eleanor stared at the papers for a long, agonizing minute. The unbreakable, iron-willed matriarch of Hale Holdings looked suddenly fragile, defeated by the very monster she had helped create.

Slowly, with trembling fingers, she picked up the gold-plated pen and signed her name.
Without a word, she stood up, gathered her handbag, and walked out of the boardroom, never looking back once.
