Chapter 22 - The Titanium Briefcase

The ocean breeze suddenly felt biting, cold enough to cut through the humid July air. Vincent lowered the phone slowly, his dark eyes darkening into a storm.
“What is it?” Sloan asked, stepping closer, her instincts instantly flaring at the shift in his demeanor.
“That was Detective Vance from the local precinct,” Vincent said quietly, keeping his voice low so Willa wouldn't overhear while she concentrated on her sandcastle moat. “A titanium briefcase was recovered from a trespasser on our property line. It belonged to Meridian Capital.”
Sloan’s breath hitched. “Meridian? We dissolved that portfolio through the federal receiver six months ago.”
“Apparently, they missed a box,” Vincent replied grimly. “A ledger linking your father’s old venture accounts directly to my mother’s private offshore holdings from six years ago. They weren't just competitors in Savannah, Sloan. They were business partners before we were even married.”
Sloan stared at him, the color draining from her cheeks as the full weight of the revelation settled over her.
“Which means,” Sloan whispered, her voice trembling slightly with suppressed anger, “every single manufactured debt, every probate challenge, every engineered crisis... it wasn't just corporate sabotage. It was a coordinated campaign designed to destroy my family long before I ever met you.”

Vincent stood up from the patio chair, tossing his linen jacket over his shoulder with lethal calm.
“Pack a bag for the weekend, Sloan,” Vincent said, his jaw locked tight. “We’re going to pay my mother a visit in Palm Beach.”
