Chapter 7 - The Trap SprungSirens began to wail in the distance—not the quiet, private security alarms of an estate, but the screaming, unmistakable sirens of the New York City Police Department, accompanied by the deep rumble of federal tactical vehicles surrounding the block.

Victoria’s face drained of what little color she had left. "You called the FBI?" she hissed.

"Not just the FBI," my father replied smoothly. "The federal antiquities task force, the SEC, and every international banking regulator who has spent the last decade trying to trace the syndicate’s offshore shell corporations. Victoria, your entire financial empire is currently being unzipped on live television."

Dominic looked down at the journal in his hands, then up at my father, a slow, triumphant grin spreading across his face. "All those years... you weren't hiding from them. You were building a case against them."

"You can't hide from a global criminal syndicate in a cave," my father said, turning to look at me with warm, loving eyes. "You have to drag them out into the sunlight. And to do that, you need the world's best bait." He winked at me. "Which happened to be a ten-million-dollar reward offered by one very impatient billionaire."

I couldn't help the small laugh that bubbled up through my shock. "So... the whole thing at The Sterling restaurant tonight? You planned that?"

"Well, I knew you were working there," my father admitted, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly. "I've been watching over you from the shadows every single day, kiddo. When Dominic announced his public search for a translator, I knew you'd step up. It's in your blood."

Before I could process the sheer insanity of my entire life being an elaborate, high-stakes chess match, federal agents in heavy tactical gear swarmed down the staircase, led by an older woman with a silver badge and a stern expression.

"William Hart?" the federal agent asked, looking at my father with professional respect. "Agent Miller, Homeland Security. We've secured the perimeter. Victoria Vance and her entire cell are in custody."

Agent Miller turned her gaze toward Victoria, who was being dragged to her feet by two officers. "It's over, Victoria. The global accounts have been frozen."

As Victoria was hauled away, casting one last murderous glare in our direction, the heavy tension in the underground vault finally began to lift.

Dominic walked over to my father, extending a hand. "I owe you an apology, old friend. And an enormous debt."

"Save the apologies, Dominic," my father smiled, shaking his hand firmly. "Instead, how about you take us out for a proper dinner? My daughter’s been on her feet serving steaks all evening, and she hasn't eaten a thing."
