Chapter 19 - The Train Heist

The armored locomotive hissed and groaned as it ground to a violent, screeching halt along the snowy tracks.
Before the dazed guards inside could draw their weapons, the roof of the passenger car blew outward with a deafening blast. Splintered wood and iron rained down into the cabin as a figure dropped smoothly through the hole, landing squarely in the center aisle.
It was Josephine.
In each hand, she held a smoking revolver, her eyes locked directly on Mr. Sterling, who stumbled backward in sheer disbelief.
"What... who are you?!" Sterling stammered, raising his hands.
"I'm the widow Dalton," Josephine said coldly, walking forward and pressing the barrel of her revolver right against Sterling’s expensive silk tie. "And you're standing on my husband's property."
Behind her, dropping through the roof hatch, came Wyatt, followed by two local miners from Bitter Peak who had answered Josephine’s call for help. Wyatt quickly moved to the floor rings, using a heavy cold chisel and a hammer to smash the locks off his father’s and Gideon’s manacles.
"Took you long enough," Gideon muttered, rubbing his bruised wrists as he stood up and stretched his massive frame.
"We had to borrow a horse," Wyatt grinned, handing Gideon his Winchester rifle.
Sterling stared at them in horror, realizing the magnitude of his miscalculation. "You're insane. You're attacking federal property! You'll be hunted across every state in the union!"
"We aren't running anywhere, Sterling," Thomas said, stepping up beside his wife and taking the heavy ledger books from a satchel Wyatt handed him. "Every financial record, every bribe receipt, and every land deed you stole from the people of Oak Haven is right here. And copies of these documents are already on their way to the federal prosecutor in Washington."

Gideon walked slowly over to Sterling, towering above the wealthy baron. He grabbed Sterling by the collar of his silk shirt, hauling him up effortlessly until their eyes met.
"This mountain belongs to us," Gideon whispered, his voice dark and absolute. "And you are never coming back."
