CHAPTER 9 — “The Brother Who Stole an Entire Lifetime”

Rain hammered against the windshield as Jonathan, Evelyn, and Emma sped toward the Harrington family estate.
No one spoke.
Emma sat in the back seat, clutching the silver locket so tightly that the chain left red marks across her palm.
Finally, she broke the silence.
"If Michael is my uncle..."
"...why would he want me dead?"
Jonathan stared through the windshield.
"Because you're the only person he can never replace."
Hours later...
The massive iron gates of Harrington Manor slowly opened.
The mansion had stood empty for years.
Or so everyone believed.
As they stepped inside...
The lights suddenly flickered on.
Someone had been waiting.
A slow clap echoed through the grand hall.
One...
Two...
Three...
From the shadows emerged a sharply dressed man in his early sixties.
His silver hair was perfectly combed.
His smile never reached his eyes.
"Welcome home, brother."
Jonathan froze.
"Michael..."
"You should have stayed missing."
Michael laughed softly.
"So should you."
Emma looked from one man to the other.
They had the same eyes.
The same jawline.
The resemblance was undeniable.
Michael walked toward the fireplace.
"I never hated you."
"I hated living in your shadow."
"Father built you into a king..."
"...and treated me like a spare."
Jonathan shook his head.
"We were brothers."
"No."
Michael's voice turned cold.
"We were competitors."
He pressed a button hidden beneath the fireplace mantel.
A hidden wall slid open.
Everyone gasped.
Inside was a vault filled with paintings, gold bars, jewelry, and documents worth billions of dollars.
"I didn't steal your company."
Michael smiled proudly.
"I stole your life."
Then he looked directly at Emma.
"And now..."
"I'm taking the last piece that belongs to you."
He snapped his fingers.
Armed guards surrounded the room.
Emma instinctively stepped in front of Jonathan and Evelyn.
Michael laughed.
"Still protecting your parents?"
"You don't even know who you really are."
He tossed a thick leather folder onto the marble floor.
Jonathan opened it with trembling hands.
Inside...
Were hospital records.
Birth certificates.
DNA reports.
Jonathan's face went completely pale.
"What..."
"This can't be..."
Emma wasn't just his daughter.
She was the sole legal beneficiary of a secret international trust Jonathan had established the day she was born.
Its value...
Had quietly grown for twenty-five years.
More than forty-eight billion dollars.
Michael had spent two decades hunting her...
Not because she was family.
Because she legally owned the largest private fortune in the Harrington empire.
He smiled.
