CHAPTER 2 — "The Dog Led Them Into the Forest... Where a Horrifying Secret Had Been Waiting for Days."

The rain had become even heavier.

Lightning illuminated the empty streets.

Most people would have stayed inside.

Emily climbed into an ambulance.

"I'm coming too," said Officer Daniel, who had just arrived after hearing about the rescued child.

The German Shepherd waited outside.

The moment the ambulance doors opened...

It started running.

Not wildly.

Not randomly.

As if it already knew the exact destination.

For nearly fifteen minutes they followed the dog through deserted roads until it suddenly left the pavement and disappeared into a narrow forest trail.

The ambulance couldn't continue.

Everyone got out.

Mud reached their ankles.

Branches whipped across their faces.

The dog never slowed down.

Then...

It stopped.

A low whimper escaped its throat.

It pawed frantically at the ground near an abandoned wooden cabin.

The cabin looked deserted.

Broken windows.

Collapsed roof.

No lights.

No signs of life.

Officer Daniel cautiously pushed the door open.

It creaked loudly.

The smell inside was unbearable.

Rotting food.

Mold.

And something else...

Blood.

Fresh blood.

Flashlights swept across the room.

Furniture had been overturned.

Children's drawings covered one wall.

Several tiny shoes lay scattered across the floor.

Emily's stomach tightened.

"Where are the parents?"

The dog suddenly rushed toward a locked trapdoor beneath an old rug.

It barked furiously.

Daniel and another officer forced it open.

The wooden hatch crashed aside.

A freezing draft rushed upward.

Someone was down there.

"Police! If anyone can hear me, answer!"

Silence.

Then...

A weak cough.

Everyone froze.

They climbed down carefully.

Their flashlights revealed a narrow underground cellar.

Three frightened children huddled together in one corner.

The oldest couldn't have been ten years old.

The youngest looked barely two.

They were alive...

But terrified.

One little boy pointed toward the stairs.

"The bad man..."

"He took Mommy."

Emily's heart nearly stopped.

"Where?"

The boy slowly raised a shaking finger.

"There..."

Hidden behind stacks of old boxes...

Was another steel door.

Locked from the outside.

Officer Daniel kicked it once.

Twice.

On the third strike...

The lock exploded open.

Inside the tiny room lay a young woman tied to a chair.

Barely conscious.

Covered with bruises.

The moment the German Shepherd saw her...

It let out a heartbreaking cry.

The woman slowly opened her swollen eyes.

"Shadow..."

The dog sprinted across the room and buried its face against hers, whining uncontrollably.

Tears streamed down the officers' faces.

Emily knelt beside the woman.

"You're safe now."

The woman whispered with her last remaining strength...

"I told him..."

"...my dog would find help."

Then she lost consciousness.

Police sirens echoed through the forest minutes later.

Investigators quickly realized this wasn't an ordinary kidnapping.

The cabin had been used for months.

Evidence suggested multiple victims had passed through it.

And the man responsible...

Had disappeared only hours before the rescue.

As detectives searched the property, one officer found a notebook lying on a dusty table.

He opened the final page.

His face instantly turned white.

Because written there were just six chilling words:

"I'll come back for what's mine."

Far away...

Hidden behind the trees...

Someone silently watched the flashing police lights.

May you like

And smiled.
