The applause died down as Mayor Harrison stepped up to the podium, tapping the microphone before clearing his throat. "Ladies and gentlemen, before we enjoy dinner, we have a very special presentation tonight honoring fifty years of municipal partnership with Boston’s leading corporate dynasties..."
I didn't wait for him to finish his prepared speech.
With a quiet nod to Marissa, I stepped away from the table, walking briskly toward the audio-visual control booth tucked behind the main ballroom drapes. The technician on duty looked up in startled confusion as I slid open the heavy door and stepped inside.
"Excuse me, sir, you can't be in here—" he started, standing up from his chair.
"Step aside," I said, sliding a portable encrypted drive into the master AV switcher port. "Override the primary projector feed. Route the file labeled Crestline-Ledgers.enc to the main ballroom screens."
Before the technician could protest, the massive digital projection screens flanking the ballroom stage flickered from the mayor's smiling portrait to a dense, undeniable matrix of financial wire receipts, property titles, and recorded phone transcripts detailing decades of municipal corruption involving Councilman Vance, my grandfather, and several high-ranking city officials.
The ballroom fell into a sudden, suffocating silence.
Mayor Harrison froze mid-sentence, staring up at the giant screen displaying his own signature on an illegal zoning payoff document. Across the room, Councilman Vance turned completely pale, his glass slipping from his fingers and shattering against the parquet floor.

I stepped out from behind the curtain, walking slowly onto the edge of the ballroom stage, the microphone feedback humming softly as I raised my voice for the entire room to hear.
"Good evening, everyone," I said calmly, looking directly at the stunned faces of Boston's ruling elite. "I think it’s time we talk about how this city was really built."
