Chapter 3 - The Boardroom Coup

Dawn broke over the Boston skyline, casting a cold, gray light across the glass-and-steel monolith of Whitmore Construction. By 8:00 AM, the emergency board meeting was already underway on the top floor. The atmosphere in the executive suite was thick with panic.
My father sat at the head of the long obsidian table, looking twenty years older than he had the night before. His hands trembled slightly as he shuffled papers. Half the board members were shouting over each other, demanding explanations for the sudden freeze on corporate accounts and the unexpected legal audit.
I walked in precisely at 8:15 AM, wearing my charcoal tailored suit, carrying a single leather folder. I didn't take my usual seat beside my father. Instead, I walked to the head of the table, opposite him, and remained standing.
"Gentlemen," I began, cutting through the chaos like a blade. "I am sure you are all wondering why your portfolios have been locked down this morning."
Jonathan Vance, the senior board member and my father’s oldest ally, slammed his hand on the table. "Adrian, this is insanity! Your father built this company. You can't just halt operations because of a domestic dispute!"
"This isn't a domestic dispute, Jonathan. It's a forensic audit of corporate fraud," I replied calmly, opening my folder.
I projected a digital document onto the massive wall screen behind me. It detailed a series of suspicious asset transfers executed four years ago—precisely around the time Nathan Keane died.
"Four years ago, a significant portion of our secondary holdings was systematically drained and funneled into offshore accounts controlled by a shell company," I stated, locking eyes with my father. "A shell company named Vanguard Holdings. Registered under my father's private holdings, but funded using capital legally earmarked for Nathan Keane’s paternal trust."
Gasps echoed around the room. Jonathan looked sideways at my father, his expression turning stony. "Richard... is this true?"
"It's a fabrication," my father rasped, standing up, his voice shaking with fury. "Adrian is staging a coup because he thinks he can run the company better by pandering to a low-class employee!"
"It's not a fabrication," a calm voice echoed from the doorway.
Raymond Pierce stepped into the boardroom, carrying a heavy briefcase. He looked tired, but his posture was resolute. He walked up to the table and placed a thick stack of certified bank records beside my folder.
"I signed off on those transfers under direct orders from Richard," Raymond announced to the stunned room. "I have the recorded phone calls, the email threads, and the original ledgers. Richard Whitmore intentionally defrauded an heir of over forty million dollars to consolidate his own control."

The silence in the boardroom was absolute. You could hear the hum of the air conditioning unit.
I looked down at my father, who slowly sank back into his chair, defeated by his own greed. "The board will now vote on emergency restructuring," I said quietly. "And my first executive act will be reinstating the rightful heirs of the Whitmore estate."
