Chapter 19 - The Final Choice

Amara woke up at the sound of our raised voices, rubbing her eyes sleepily. “Mom? Where are we going?”

I dropped to my knees, wrapping my arms around her small frame, shielding her body with my own. My mind raced at lightspeed. There had to be a way out. Every plane has emergency overrides. Every system has a backdoor.

“Listen to me, Amara,” I whispered fiercely into her ear, pressing my hand against her chest. “When I tell you to run, you open that emergency hatch near the tail and jump into the inflatable slide. Do not look back.”

“No, Mom! I’m staying with you!” she cried, tears welling in her eyes.

“You have to live,” I said, tears streaming down my own face.

Before the enforcer could raise his weapon to stop us, the cockpit door behind him suddenly exploded inward with a deafening roar of splintering wood and flying metal.

Smoke billowed into the cabin.

Through the haze stepped a tall, imposing figure in a dark trench coat, his face hardened into an expression of absolute, terrifying fury.

Roman Valente.

“Put the gun down, Moretti,” Roman commanded, his voice echoing through the cabin like thunder.

The scarred enforcer whirled around, instantly leveling his pistol at Roman’s chest. “You’re violating Commission protocol, Roman! She knows too much! They both have to go down with the plane!”

“They go nowhere,” Roman snarled, raising his Glock with absolute, unwavering steadiness. “Clara and Amara belong to me.”
