Chapter 5 - Amara’s Testimony

“She's lying!”

The sharp, clear voice echoed through the massive medical suite. Everyone froze.

Amara stepped out from behind my skirt, her chin held high, glaring directly at Elena Valente with a fearlessness that terrified me.

“Amara, stop—” I whispered, pulling her back.

“No, Mom,” she said loudly. “She's the bad lady. I saw her in the hallway before the bell rang.”

Elena’s face twitched—the first crack in her icy facade. “The child is confused. Get these peasants out of here before I have them dealt with permanently.”

“Wait,” Roman commanded, holding up a hand. He looked down at Amara, his hardened mobster eyes softening just a fraction. “Let her speak. What did you see, little one?”

Amara pointed her small finger directly at Elena. “You dropped it. When you walked past the linen closet at eleven-thirty. You pulled the paper out of your pocket, and it fell on the floor. I tried to tell my mom, but you told us questions were expensive.”

The room went dead silent. You could hear the faint hiss of Roman's oxygen tank in the corner.

Elena’s composure fractured completely. “She’s a child! She's making up stories coached by her mother to blackmail us!”

“Amara doesn't lie,” Roman said quietly. He turned his gaze slowly toward his wife. “And she just described the exact paper stock we use in the private family registry—paper that only prints when a direct biometric override is executed in the master vault.”

Roman shifted his gaze to Dante. “And guess who holds the biometric backup key for the master vault?”

Dante’s smile vanished. The silence in the room became absolute, suffocating, and lethal.
