CHAPTER 2 — The Secret Hidden Inside the Will

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

The ticking of the grandfather clock sounded louder than anyone's heartbeat.

Melissa was the first to break the silence.

"Give me that letter."

She reached for Eleanor.

Samuel stepped between them.

"No one touches Mrs. Brooks."

Andrew laughed bitterly.

"Mrs. Brooks?"

"She's the maid."

Samuel looked directly into his eyes.

"Not anymore."

"She is now majority owner of Whitmore Holdings."

The sentence landed like an explosion.

Victor cursed under his breath.

Melissa's husband quietly slipped out his phone.

Company stock.

Emergency legal contacts.

Damage control.

Everyone suddenly realized something terrifying.

Eleanor didn't just inherit money.

She now controlled the corporation.

She could fire executives.

Sell assets.

Replace the entire board.

Even remove every Whitmore family member from management.

Andrew leaned close to Eleanor.

His smile disappeared.

"You manipulated my father."

Eleanor looked at him sadly.

"I haven't manipulated anyone."

"I barely convinced him to take his medicine."

Melissa slapped the letter onto the table.

"My father would never accuse his own family of murder."

Samuel slowly opened another envelope.

"He expected that objection."

Inside...

A small brass key.

A faded photograph.

And an audio recorder.

Richard's voice filled the room.

Weak.

Tired.

But unmistakable.

"If you're hearing this..."

"...I'm already dead."

Every face turned pale.

"I know my children will fight over my money."

"But money was never the reason I wrote this will."

A long cough echoed through the recording.

"The real inheritance..."

"...is the truth."

The room froze.

"For thirty years..."

"I believed my eldest son Michael died in a boating accident."

Another pause.

"Last year..."

"I discovered he never drowned."

Melissa's breathing stopped.

Andrew slowly lowered his head.

Richard continued.

"He was murdered."

Victor whispered,

"No..."

"And the killer..."

"...has lived inside this family ever since."

Suddenly—

The lights went out.

Darkness swallowed the mansion.

Someone screamed.

Glass shattered somewhere upstairs.

Footsteps echoed across the second floor.

Running.

Fast.

Then...

A gunshot.

One single deafening blast.

When the emergency lights flickered on...

Attorney Samuel Hayes was lying on the marble floor.

Blood spread beneath his shoulder.

The audio recorder had vanished.

So had the brass key.

May you like

And Eleanor...

Was gone.
