CHAPTER 7 — The Second Child Nobody Knew Existed

The courtroom fell silent as Eleanor unfolded the photograph.
Richard Whitmore looked decades younger.
Standing beside him was a beautiful woman no one in the family recognized.
In her arms...
A newborn baby wrapped in a white blanket.
On the back of the photo, Richard had written:
"Forgive me. I failed both of my children."
Eleanor slowly looked up.
"There's another heir."
Melissa nearly collapsed into her chair.
Andrew shook his head violently.
"No..."
"No, there can't be."
Michael remained strangely calm.
He stared at the photograph for a long time.
Then he whispered,
"I've seen her before."
Every eye turned toward him.
"When I was little... before I disappeared... I remember a woman visiting my father."
"She always brought me wooden toys."
"My father called her Anna."
Samuel immediately searched through Richard's personal files.
Minutes later, he found a sealed envelope marked:
ONLY OPEN AFTER THE FIRST WILL IS COMPLETED.
Inside were two birth certificates.
The first belonged to Michael Whitmore.
The second...
Made everyone's blood run cold.
Father: Richard Whitmore.
Mother: Anna Collins.
Child: Female.
Date of birth...
Exactly three years after Michael disappeared.
Melissa grabbed the document.
"This is fake!"
Samuel quietly shook his head.
"It bears the original county seal."
"It was legally registered."
Andrew punched the wall so hard that framed family photographs crashed onto the marble floor.
"My father had another family?"
Eleanor continued reading Richard's handwritten letter.
"I loved Anna.
I wanted to marry her.
But my family threatened to destroy her life.
To protect our daughter... I erased her existence."
The room became unbearably quiet.
Richard's letter continued.
"If my daughter is alive... she deserves the truth.
Find her.
Before they do."
Samuel frowned.
"They?"
Before anyone could answer...
One of the detectives rushed into the room.
"We have a problem."
"What happened?" Eleanor asked.
"The security cameras."
"What about them?"
"They've been hacked."
The detective placed a laptop on the table.
The final recording from the previous night appeared.
Every person leaned closer.
The footage showed someone entering Richard's private study only two hours before his death.
The figure wore black gloves.
A hood concealed the face.
But as the person turned toward the camera for only a second...
Everyone recognized the expensive gold ring.
Melissa covered her mouth.
Andrew whispered,
"No..."
The ring belonged to someone everyone trusted.
Not Victor.
Not Margaret.
Not an outsider.
It belonged to Attorney Samuel Hayes.
The room erupted.
Samuel staggered backward.
"I didn't..."
"I swear..."
But before he could finish...
His phone vibrated.
A text message flashed across the screen.
DON'T SAY A WORD... OR YOUR DAUGHTER DIES NEXT.
Samuel's face lost all color.
He slowly lowered the phone.
Eleanor looked directly into his terrified eyes.
For the first time...
She realized Samuel hadn't been protecting Richard's secrets.
He had been someone else's prisoner all along.
And somewhere across the city...
May you like
A woman who had never known she was a Whitmore...
Was already being watched.
