Chapter 2 - The Iron Wall of Protocol"Wait, sir! You can't go back there! Authorized personnel only!"

A security guard lunged forward, his heavy hand catching Ethan by the shoulder just as he reached the swinging double doors of the trauma wing.

Ethan spun around with such ferocity that the guard actually flinched. The mask of polite corporate diplomacy had completely vanished, replaced by the terrifying, razor-sharp edge of a billionaire accustomed to bending the world to his absolute will.

"Do you know who I am?" Ethan’s voice dropped to a lethal, vibrating whisper that cut through the chaos of the emergency room. "I am the primary benefactor of this entire hospital system. I funded this wing. Move your hand off my jacket, or by the time the sun rises tomorrow, you won't even have a broom to sweep these floors."

The guard, intimidated by the sheer aura of absolute authority radiating from the charcoal-suited executive, slowly dropped his hand and stepped back.

Before the guard could recover, Dr. Reynolds stepped out of Trauma Room 3, pulling off his blue latex gloves. His face was pale, smeared with a faint streak of dried crimson. He looked directly at the little girl, who was now being held gently by a nurse holding a cup of warm apple juice, and then his gaze shifted to Ethan.

"Are you family?" Dr. Reynolds asked, his voice flat, professional, and entirely devoid of comfort.

"I am her father," Ethan declared, his voice echoing loudly down the sterile hallway.

The entire corridor went dead silent. The nurse holding the juice gasped. Little Lily turned her tear-streaked face toward Ethan, her lip quivering as she stared at the tall, impeccably dressed stranger claiming a title she had never heard her mother use.

"Daddy?" Lily whispered, her voice cracking. "Where were you? Mommy cried. Mommy cried every time it rained because she said you left us in the dark."

The words struck Ethan like a physical blow to the chest. He staggered backward, gripping the metal door frame to keep his knees from buckling.

"Doctor," Ethan rasped, ignoring the crushing guilt tearing at his internal organs. "Save her. Whatever it takes. Bring in the best specialists in the country. Fly them in on my private jet. Cost is not a factor. Save her."

Dr. Reynolds shook his head slowly, his expression grim. "Mr. Parker... money doesn't always stop what's already set in motion. The internal bleeding in her brain is catastrophic. We are doing everything humanly possible, but honestly... you need to prepare yourself for the worst."
