Chapter 3 - The Secret Vault of BetrayalWhile Dr. Reynolds rushed back into the operating room, Ethan stood frozen in the hallway, his mind racing through a labyrinth of dark memories.

How had Hannah survived all these years without him? He had left a check, yes, but she had sent it back to his corporate office within a week, completely uncashed, along with a single handwritten note: ‘I don't want your guilt money, Ethan. Keep your empire. I'll raise our child with my own two hands.’
At the time, Ethan had laughed it off as youthful pride. He assumed she would eventually cave, take government assistance, or remarry some blue-collar worker who would give the child a normal, unremarkable life. He had deliberately used his wealth and legal team to block any public records of her, choosing to bury his past deep beneath a mountain of mergers, acquisitions, and cold cash.
Now, standing outside a trauma room where the woman he once loved was fighting for her life, that empire felt like a cage built out of bones.
"Mr. Parker?"
Ethan turned to see Julian walking briskly down the hall, holding a thick manila folder. The assistant looked deeply uncomfortable.
"What is that?" Ethan demanded, his eyes bloodshot.
"I... I ran a preliminary background check on Hannah Whitmore using our corporate intelligence database," Julian said hesitantly, swallowing hard. "Sir, you aren't going to like what you find. In fact... it ties directly into the acquisition deal you're closing next week with Vanguard Global."
Ethan snatched the folder from Julian’s hands. His fingers ripped the cardboard flap open, scattering papers onto the clean hospital floor. He dropped to one knee, frantically gathering the sheets.
The documents detailed Hannah’s life over the past decade. She hadn't just been living a quiet, struggling existence. She had spent the last five years working as a senior forensic accountant for Apex Holdings—a shell corporation completely owned and operated by Vanguard Global, the exact corporate giant Ethan was scheduled to merge with in seventy-two hours.
Even more shocking was the highlighted paragraph on page three:
‘Hannah Whitmore discovered massive, systematic embezzlement and asset-stripping within Vanguard Global’s medical supply division, totaling over forty million dollars. She compiled a comprehensive dossier intended for federal prosecutors.’

Ethan’s breath hitched. Vanguard Global. The company he was merging with. The company whose executives had wined and dined him at exclusive country clubs, assuring him their financial books were pristine.
"It wasn't an accident," Ethan whispered, his blood running ice cold. "Her falling... wasn't an accident."
