Chapter 8 - The Execution at DawnAt 8:55 AM, the grand marble lobby of Vanguard Global’s Manhattan headquarters was buzzing with media electricity.

Doormen in crisp uniforms held back a surging wave of journalists, camera crews, and financial analysts. Flashbulbs popped blindingly as the financial event of the decade prepared to take place on the top-floor executive boardroom.
Inside the boardroom, a massive mahogany table stretched beneath glittering crystal chandeliers. Marcus Vance sat at the head of the table, wearing a triumphant grin, surrounded by his board of directors. He checked his luxury watch, looking thoroughly amused.
"Well, gentlemen," Marcus chuckled, adjusting his tie. "It appears our dear friend Ethan Parker is running late. Perhaps the sudden realization of fatherhood has finally broken his legendary composure."
Just as Marcus raised a glass of champagne to toast the impending merger, the heavy double doors of the boardroom swung open with a loud, echoing bang.
All heads snapped toward the entrance.
Ethan Parker strode into the room alone. He wore his charcoal Milanese suit, perfectly pressed, his hair neat, his expression carved from absolute ice. He didn't look like a man who had spent the entire night sleeping on a plastic hospital chair outside an ICU; he looked like an executioner stepping onto the scaffold.
"Ethan!" Marcus beamed, standing up and opening his arms wide. "My dear boy! We were beginning to think you got cold feet. Come, sit down. The cameras are rolling downstairs. Let's make history."
Ethan didn't move. He stopped ten feet away from the table, sliding a single manila folder across the polished mahogany surface. It slid smoothly until it bumped right against Marcus’s champagne glass.
Marcus frowned, his smile wavering slightly. "What is this?"
"Your resignation, Marcus," Ethan said evenly, his voice carrying clearly across the silent, tense room.
Marcus let out a nervous, forced laugh. "Ethan, are you feeling alright? Did the hospital air get to you? We're signing the merger, not restructuring management."
"Look inside the folder," Ethan commanded.
Slowly, his smile fading into a hard scowl, Marcus opened the folder. He pulled out the first page, then the second, then the third.
With every single sheet of paper his eyes scanned, the color drained completely from Marcus’s face until he looked like a corpse. His hands began to tremble so violently that the papers scattered across the mahogany table like autumn leaves.
"This... this is fabricated," Marcus stammered, his voice rising in panic. "These are illegal hacks! You can't use this! The board will never—"
"The board already knows, Marcus," Ethan interrupted coldly.
Right at that moment, the wall-mounted television screens broadcasting live financial news across the room flickered. The corporate logo of Vanguard Global vanished, replaced by a live breaking news banner:
BREAKING NEWS: VANGUARD GLOBAL EXECUTIVE TIED TO EMBEZZLEMENT AND ATTEMPTED MURDER—FEDERAL AGENTS RAID HEADQUARTERS.
Heavy boots echoed outside in the hallway. Before anyone in the boardroom could move, the double doors were kicked open wide. A dozen armed federal agents in tactical gear marched into the room, led by a stern-faced senior investigator holding a federal arrest warrant.
"Marcus Vance?" the lead agent barked, stepping up to the head of the table. "You are under arrest for corporate fraud, money laundering, and conspiracy to commit murder."
Marcus stared in absolute horror as the cold steel handcuffs were slammed around his wrists. He lunged backward, glaring furiously at Ethan across the table.
"You planned this!" Marcus screamed, thrashing against the agents as they dragged him toward the door. "You used the merger as bait! You ruined me!"

Ethan didn't blink. He watched the man who tried to murder the mother of his child being hauled away in disgrace, his face an impenetrable mask of absolute justice.
"You shouldn't have touched what was mine, Marcus," Ethan whispered softly into the empty air.
