The sun set over New York Harbor, casting long, bruised streaks of orange and purple across the Manhattan skyline. From the panoramic balcony of the Dantis estate, the city looked vast, chaotic, and endlessly complex.
Inside the nursery suite, a soft, warm light illuminated the room.
Daisy sat in a plush rocking chair, holding a tiny, squirming bundle wrapped in soft white cotton. Sleeping soundly against her shoulder was a baby girl with a shock of dark curly hair and tiny fists curled tightly against her chest.
At the open doorway stood Aleandro. He had shed his jacket entirely, his sleeves rolled up, his dark eyes softening into something so profoundly tender it defied every ruthless legend ever written about him in the police reports.
He walked over slowly, kneeling beside the rocking chair. He gently reached out, running the back of his calloused index finger along the baby's tiny cheek.
"She has your stubbornness," Aleandro whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "I saw her glare at Salvatore when he walked in earlier. She already knows how to intimidate a capo."
"She has your nose," Daisy smiled softly, leaning down to press a gentle kiss to Aleandro’s temple. "And she definitely inherited your dramatic timing."
On the floor beside them, Barnaby let out a deep, contented sigh, resting his massive black head across Aleandro’s boots, keeping a faithful, eternal watch over the entire family.
Aleandro stood up, wrapping his arms around both Daisy and their daughter, pulling them securely against his chest. He looked out the window toward the vast, glittering empire stretching out across the city—an empire built on blood, power, and fear, but now entirely conquered by something far more dangerous and enduring.
Love.
"We won, Daisy," Aleandro whispered against her hair.
