Chapter 6 - THE RAID ON SUITE 904Chaos erupted in the underground tunnel.

Men in tactical black gear, their helmets stenciled with FBI and CYBERCRIME DIVISION, swarmed into the railway spur from both ends. Within seconds, Sterling was pinned face-down to the floor, heavy zip-ties ratcheting tight around his wrists. Pendelton threw his hands into the air, falling to his knees as two federal agents forced him down.

Lupita stood trembling against the brick wall, wiping tears of relief from her cheeks as an agent gently draped a warm jacket over her shoulders.

Ethan stood up, brushing dirt and soot from his clothes, his heart hammering against his ribs like a trapped bird.

"Secure the server racks!" shouted a tall, athletic woman with silver-streaked hair and an FBI badge hanging from her neck, walking briskly toward Ethan. She extended her hand. "Special Agent Vance—no relation, I assure you. Agent Miller, Cybercrimes Task Force."

Ethan shook her hand firmly. "You got my silent distress signal?"

"We received your open-line emergency call from Suite 904 over an hour ago," Agent Miller said, looking around the subterranean room with professional satisfaction. "Our cyber unit has been tracking the Grand Regent’s illegal data-harvesting ring for six months. We were waiting for definitive physical proof of the mirror servers before moving in. Your father’s old auditing files—the ones Sarah hid—gave us the probable cause we needed."

"Is my daughter safe?" Ethan asked, panic suddenly spiking as he remembered Lily asleep in the suite.

"Agent Davis is with her right now," Miller assured him gently. "She’s sleeping soundly. She hasn't woken up."

Ethan let out a long, ragged breath, closing his eyes for a moment as the adrenaline finally began to recede from his veins.

"What about Victor?" Ethan asked, opening his eyes.

"Cornered on the ninth-floor balcony ten minutes ago," Miller replied with a slight smirk. "Tried to jump to an adjacent fire escape and missed. He’s currently in custody with two broken ribs and a sprained ankle."

An hour later, Ethan stood in the lobby of the Grand Regent.

The glittering chandeliers that had felt so cold and hostile just hours ago now cast a bright, clean light over the marble floors. Federal agents were carting away computer terminals, filing cabinets, and hard drives from the executive offices behind the front desk.

The two receptionists who had turned Ethan away were sitting on a velvet sofa, handcuffed together, their makeup smeared with tears.

Ethan walked up the grand staircase toward Suite 904, his backpack slung over one shoulder.

Inside the bedroom, Lily was still sleeping peacefully in the king-sized bed, clutching a small stuffed bear Ethan had bought her at the airport.

Ethan sat down softly on the edge of the mattress. He pulled the worn photograph of Sarah and Lupita from his jacket pocket, placing it gently on the nightstand beside a framed photo of Lily.

Tomorrow was the third anniversary of Sarah’s death.

For three years, Ethan had believed she died in a random, meaningless tragedy. He had believed the world was cruel, random, and unjust. But sitting here now, watching his daughter breathe peacefully in the heart of the empire Sarah had fought to expose, Ethan realized the truth.

Sarah hadn't just been a victim. She had been a warrior. And she had left a trail of breadcrumbs so that the people she loved could finish the fight.
