Chapter 8 - ROSES FOR SARAHThe car ride to the quiet hillside cemetery overlooking the bay was peaceful. The morning traffic hummed softly, and classical music played quietly on the car radio—the exact same station Sarah used to listen to on Sunday mornings while making pancakes.

When they arrived, the cemetery was quiet and still, bathed in golden sunlight and the sweet scent of blooming wildflowers.

They walked up the familiar stone path until they reached a simple, elegant marble headstone shaded by the branches of a sprawling oak tree.

SARAH VANCE A loving mother, a brilliant mind, a fierce protector. Forever in our hearts.

Ethan knelt down beside the stone, gently clearing away a few fallen oak leaves. Lily knelt beside him, placing the bouquet of red roses carefully against the cool marble base.

Ethan pulled the old photograph from his pocket one last time. He looked at Sarah’s bright, laughing eyes, then at the words on the back: Find Lupita. She knows why I was followed.

"We found her, Sarah," Ethan whispered, his voice trembling with emotion as a warm breeze rustled the leaves above them. "We found her. And we finished what you started."

Lily leaned her head against Ethan’s shoulder, wrapping her small arms around his waist. "We love you, Mommy," she whispered into the quiet morning air.

Ethan kissed the top of Lily’s head, looking out across the sparkling blue bay where the city skyline rose tall and proud in the distance. The shadows of the past had finally been swept away by the morning light.
