Chapter 7 - THE MORNING OF TRUTHThe morning sun broke over the city skyline, painting the glass towers of the financial district in brilliant shades of gold and amber.

August 9th. Exactly three years.
Ethan stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows of Suite 904, holding a fresh bouquet of red roses. The crushed petals from yesterday’s travel had been replaced by vibrant, perfect blooms. Behind him, Lily stirred, sitting up and rubbing her eyes with her small fists.
"Morning, Daddy," she mumbled sleepily, her voice sweet and soft.
"Morning, bug," Ethan said, turning around with a warm smile. He walked over to the bed and scooped her up into his arms, burying his face in her soft hair. "Did you sleep well?"
"I had a good dream," Lily said, blinking her big brown eyes. "Mommy was there. She was smiling."
Ethan’s throat tightened, but he smiled back, blinking away the mist in his eyes. "I think she was smiling for real, sweetie. Come on. We have somewhere to be."
An hour later, Ethan and Lily walked out the grand front doors of the Grand Regent Hotel.
The media vans were already parked across the street, their satellite dishes pointed toward the entrance. Flashbulbs popped blindingly as reporters shouted questions about the massive FBI raid, the arrest of Arthur Pendelton, and the dismantling of the international corruption ring operating out of the hotel's basement.
Ethan ignored the microphones. He held Lily securely in one arm, while his other hand clutched the bouquet of red roses.
Waiting by the curb outside a black town car was Lupita. She wore a bright, clean blue coat, her head held high, a genuine smile gracing her lined face for the first time in years.
"Mr. Vance," Lupita said softly as they approached. "The board of directors has been dissolved by federal mandate. The federal trustee has appointed you temporary CEO until the restructuring is complete. The hotel... is truly yours now."
Ethan shook her hand warmly. "Not mine, Lupita ours. Vance Hospitality is going back to what my father originally intended—honesty, family, and respect. And starting today, you are the new Director of Guest Relations."

Lupita’s eyes welled with tears of pure joy. She reached out and gently touched Lily’s cheek. "Thank you, little angel."
Lily beamed, giving Lupita a quick hug around the neck.
