Chapter 10 - The Shadow PartnershipThe private boardroom on the fiftieth floor of Whitmore Global was bathed in the cool, blue light of midnight monitors. Emma sat alone at the head of the massive glass table, reviewing a security audit report provided by Marcus.

“Everything looks airtight, boss,” Marcus said, standing beside her with a tablet in hand. “All international accounts are secure, the firewall upgrades are complete, and the regulatory filings for the green tech acquisition are locked in for tomorrow morning's public vote.”
Emma nodded, though a faint sense of unease pricked at the back of her mind. Ever since her encounter with the corporate fallout, she had trained herself to trust her instincts. Something about Alexander’s complete and utter silence over the last three months felt too quiet. A man like Alexander Carter didn't just crawl into a hole and die quietly.
“Has there been any movement on his personal accounts or legal filings?” Emma asked, her eyes narrowing slightly at a discrepancy in a minor subsidiary ledger.
“Nothing,” Marcus replied, frowning. “As far as federal bankruptcy courts are concerned, he’s broke, living off credit at a budget motel in Queens, and blacklisted from every tech incubator on the East Coast.”
“Keep digging, Marcus,” Emma said, standing up and walking toward the floor-to-ceiling window overlooking the glittering Manhattan skyline. “Men like Alexander don't accept defeat. They look for a backdoor.”
Meanwhile, miles away in an underground warehouse in Brooklyn, Alexander Carter stood before a massive digital whiteboard covered in schematics, financial flowcharts, and a single, bold photograph of Emma Whitmore crossed out in red marker.
“She thinks she owns the board,” Alexander said, his eyes wild with a dangerous, obsessive gleam.

Beside him, Victor Vance exhaled a thick cloud of cigar smoke, watching the charts with amusement. “She does own the board, Alexander. For now. But as you well know, every fortress has a weak foundation. And our backers are willing to spend whatever it takes to fracture it.”
“I don't just want her money back,” Alexander whispered, his knuckles white as he gripped the edge of the metal desk. “I want her on her knees—begging me for mercy, exactly like I was on my wedding night.”
