Chapter 9 - THE ULTIMATUM

The conference room was locked in a deadly freeze. Petrov’s face was turning a dangerous shade of purple, his hands clawing desperately at Damon’s forearm to loosen the crushing grip.
"Damon... stop..." Petrov choked out, his arrogance completely shattered.
Damon held him there for three agonizing seconds longer—long enough for Petrov to taste his own mortality—before violently shoving him backward. Petrov crashed into his chair, gasping for air, coughing violently as his enforcers rushed to shield him.
Damon didn't look at Petrov. He turned his head slowly, his lethal grey eyes locking onto Alina, who stood frozen by the door.
"Get out," Damon commanded, his voice a low, rumbling growl.
Alina didn't need to be told twice. She turned and practically bolted from the room, the heavy doors slamming shut behind her.
She retreated straight to the safety of the kitchen, her chest heaving as she leaned against the counter. Sloan was waiting for her, her eyes wide with shock.
"What happened? I heard shouting!" Sloan demanded.
"Petrov grabbed my wrist," Alina panted, pressing a shaking hand to her chest. "Damon almost killed him right there at the table."
Sloan went pale, dropping her dish towel. "Oh, God. It’s starting all over again. Petrov isn't just a rival, Alina. He's the one who planted the car bomb that killed Damon’s sister two years ago. Damon has been hunting him in the shadows ever since. By defending you in front of Petrov, Damon just painted a massive target on your back."
Alina’s blood ran cold. The photograph in the desk drawer. The word BETRAYED. The relentless grief driving Damon’s insomnia. It all clicked into place with horrifying clarity. She wasn't just a maid who had crossed a line; she had become a pawn in a blood-soaked war.
An hour later, the conference doors finally unlocked. Petrov and his men stormed out of the mansion, their faces thunderous, piling into their SUVs and speeding away through the gates.

Viktor immediately marched down to the kitchen, his expression grim.
"Alina. The Pakhan wants you in his study. Now."
