Chapter 6 - The Point of No ReturnThe kiss wasn't gentle, nor was it hesitant. It was an explosion of eight years of repressed longing, late-night glances, and unspoken words finally breaking through the dam.

My hands betrayed every rule I had ever set for myself; they slid up her back, tangling into her dark hair, pulling her flush against my chest as I backed her gently against the kitchen counter. Lily gasped softly against my mouth, her fingers gripping the lapel of my shirt, pulling me deeper into the kiss with a desperate, hungry urgency that completely unraveled whatever sanity I had left.
When we finally broke apart for air, both of us breathing heavily, our foreheads rested against each other in the dim light.
"Well," Lily whispered, a triumphant, breathless smile playing on her lips as her thumb brushed across my lower lip. "Consider the rule officially broken."
"Noah is going to kill us," I murmured, though my hands were still securely wrapped around her waist, unwilling to let go. "He’s going to dismember me, bury me in the backyard, and pretend I never existed."
"Only if he finds out," Lily replied, her eyes flashing with mischief. "And right now, it’s 2:15 AM in a soundproofed apartment owned by an audio engineer. I think our acoustics are safe."

She grabbed the collar of my shirt and pulled me back toward the bedroom. This time, there was no hesitation, no throw pillows built like international treaties, and no fake boundaries. When we collapsed onto the queen bed, the world outside Portland—and Noah’s impending wrath—faded into absolute insignificance.
For the rest of the night, the silence of the apartment was filled with things we should have said eight years ago. But as the first streaks of pale gray dawn began to paint the Portland sky, a cold realization settled into the back of my mind: secrets this big never stay buried for long.
