Chapter 9 - The ExplosionThe room went dead silent. Even the ambient hum of the refrigerator seemed to switch off.

Noah crossed his arms, his friendly demeanor instantly vanishing as he registered the dead-serious tone in my voice. "What are you talking about, Ethan? What's going on?"
"It’s about Lily," I said, ignoring the sharp intake of breath from behind me. "And it’s about the last eight years. The truth is... I’ve been in love with your sister since the night she walked into that graduation party in a yellow dress."
Noah stared at me. For three long, agonizing seconds, his brain completely refused to process the words. Then, the color drained entirely from his face, replaced by a dark, dangerous flush of absolute fury.
"You... what?" Noah’s voice dropped into a low, terrifying growl. He turned his head slowly to look at Lily, who was standing frozen beside her canvas. "Lily? Is this a joke? Is this some kind of sick joke?"
"It's not a joke, Noah," Lily said, stepping forward, her chin held high despite the shaking in her hands. "It’s the truth. And I’ve been in love with him just as long."
Julian Vance cleared his throat awkwardly, slowly backing toward the front door. "You know what? I think I left my... portfolio in the car. I'll just wait outside." The door clicked shut behind him, leaving the three of us trapped in a pressure cooker of epic proportions.
"You slept at his apartment," Noah said, his voice shaking as the pieces violently clicked together in his head. "When the pipe burst... the five days... you were together?"
"Yes," I said firmly, stepping between Noah and Lily, bracing myself for the punch I knew was coming. "Blame me, Noah. Make it about me. I broke the rule. I crossed the line. But don't look at her like that."

Noah stared at me—his best friend of fifteen years, the person he trusted more than anyone else in the world. His hands were clenched into white-knuckled fists, trembling with betrayal.
"Get out," Noah whispered, his voice cracking with raw pain. "Get out of my house, Ethan. And don't ever fucking call me again."
