Chapter 17 - The Antidote’s Burn

The antidote hit my bloodstream like liquid fire. My fingers twitched, then my arms, until I finally gasped, sucking in a massive lungful of clean air as the fog cleared from my brain.
Julian was already free of his restraints, kneeling beside my chair and pulling me into a fierce, desperate embrace.
"You're safe," he choked out, his shoulders shaking as the adrenaline finally crashed. "It's over, Elena. They're all gone."
Dr. Hayes and a team of paramedics stabilized us both, wheeling us out of the apartment through a hallway swarming with federal agents, flashbulbs, and local news crews. As we passed the open elevator doors, I noticed something glinting on the floor near the edge.
