CHAPTER 2 – The Secret Hidden Inside the Coffin

The funeral director reluctantly agreed to let Rex approach one final time.

As the dog pressed his nose against the coffin again, his entire body began trembling.

Then...

He growled.

Not at the coffin.

At one of the officers standing nearby.

Captain Richard Cole.

Rex had worked with Cole for years.

He had never shown aggression toward him.

Until now.

The captain instinctively stepped backward.

"What is wrong with that dog?" he muttered.

But Rex wouldn't stop staring at him.

Seconds later, the dog lunged—not to bite—but to grab the captain's sleeve.

A folded piece of fabric slipped onto the church floor.

Inside it...

A tiny flash drive.

The entire church gasped.

Detective Sarah Monroe quickly picked it up and plugged it into a nearby laptop.

A single video appeared.

Officer Daniel Hayes.

Recorded less than twelve hours before his supposed death.

Daniel looked exhausted. Blood stained his uniform.

If you're watching this...

It means they succeeded.

My mission wasn't compromised by criminals.

It was betrayed from inside the department.

If anything happens to me...

Trust Rex.

He knows who they are.

Every face in the church turned pale.

Captain Cole slowly backed toward the exit.

And Rex...

Never took his eyes off him.

What nobody realized was that the funeral had never been about saying goodbye.
