Captain Cole didn’t make it three steps.
Rex launched forward, knocking him to the marble floor as the church erupted into chaos.
Officers shouted.
Guests screamed.
Detective Sarah Monroe aimed her gun at Cole.
“Don’t move.”
Cole’s face turned gray. “You don’t understand. Daniel was going to destroy everything.”
Sarah’s blood went cold.
“What did you do to him?”
Cole laughed bitterly. “Ask the dog.”
Then Rex began barking at the coffin again.
This time, Sarah ordered it opened.
When the funeral director lifted the lid…
Everyone froze.
The body inside was not Daniel Hayes.
It was another man.
A man wearing Daniel’s uniform.
