CHAPTER 4 – The Warehouse at Midnight
That night, Sarah followed Rex through the rain to an abandoned warehouse by the river.
Inside, she found blood on the floor, Daniel’s badge, and a hidden room filled with files—photos of dirty cops, drug money, and secret payments signed by Captain Cole.
Then Rex suddenly stopped.
A faint sound came from behind a locked freezer door.
Sarah raised her gun.
“Police! Who’s in there?”
A weak voice answered.
“Sarah… don’t shoot.”
She kicked the door open.
Daniel Hayes was alive.
Barely.
His lips were blue. His hands were tied. But his eyes were open.
Rex rushed to him, crying like a child.
Daniel whispered, “Cole planned my funeral so nobody would search for me.”
Sarah cut the ropes, tears in her eyes.
But before they could escape, headlights flooded the warehouse windows.
Cole had followed them.
