Chapter 2 - The Shockwave at Fifth AvenueThree miles away, inside the opulent, crystal-chandeliered lobby of the Zao Zero Diamond Boutique on Fifth Avenue, David Hayes was having the worst morning of his life.

He stood sweating through his tailored designer suit, a forced, nervous smile plastered across his face as he stared at the young sales associate behind the glass counter. The clerk was staring down at the point-of-sale terminal with a look of quiet, professional confusion.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Hayes,” the associate said, her voice dripping with polite hesitation. “The chip is being rejected. The terminal says ‘Card Restricted — Contact Issuer.’ Perhaps you have another card?”
David forced a hollow laugh, waving a dismissive hand. “Must be a security glitch. Moving overseas trips every fraud alert algorithm under the sun. Try the black titanium card. It has an unlimited ceiling.”
He slid the matte-black card across the glass. The associate swiped it.
BEEP.
DECLINED — FRAUD ALERT.
David’s smile vanished. His heart slammed against his ribs. He whipped out his phone, pulling up his banking application, only to watch in sheer horror as every single account balance—checking, savings, corporate reserves, and personal portfolios—flickered to zero, replaced by a stark red banner: FROZEN BY PRIMARY HOLDER.
“David?”
A soft, melodic voice chimed from behind him. He spun around.
Standing there in a stunning emerald dress was Chloe, the twenty-four-year-old marketing coordinator from his downtown office whom he had promised a luxury European tour disguised as a "business trip." She was holding up the empty velvet ring box, her eyes wide with expectation.

“Is everything okay with the payment? The car is waiting outside to take us to JFK.”
David opened his mouth, but no words came out. His phone buzzed violently in his palm. It wasn't the bank. It was a text message from a Manhattan divorce attorney he had never spoken to before, containing a single PDF file: Hayes v. Hayes — Petition for Dissolution of Marriage, Emergency Asset Freeze, and Exclusive Property Possession.
