Chapter 4 - The UnravelingDavid stormed into the living room, his eyes wild with a mixture of panic and boiling rage. He looked past his mother and father, locking his sights entirely on me as if he wanted to tear me apart with his bare hands.

“Are you insane?” David shouted, throwing his arms up into the air. “Freezing my accounts? Calling an attorney? Do you have any idea what you’ve ruined? I had a flight to catch! I had a life to build!”
“Yes, David, I know,” I said, not flinching an inch as I stood my ground in the center of the living room. “A life with Chloe. In a luxury suite at The Plaza. Funded by the corporate account I monitor every single night.”
The color drained instantly from David’s face. The bluster vanished, replaced by a cold, sickening realization. He stumbled backward, his hand catching the edge of the coffee table.
“You... you knew?” he whispered, his voice cracking.
“I’ve known about Chloe for three months,” I replied smoothly, crossing my arms. “I just wanted to see how far your arrogance would take you. I wanted to see if you would actually have the audacity to dump your elderly parents on my doorstep as a human shield while you ran off to play bachelor in Manhattan.”
Teresa spun around, her mouth hanging open as she stared at her son in utter disbelief. “David? Is this true? Another woman? You lied to us too? You brought us here just to get us out of your way?”
“Mom, shut up, don't listen to her!” David panicked, lunging forward to grab his mother’s arm, but she jerked away as if he were poisonous.
“You used us!” Arthur bellowed, his face purple with rage as he lunged at his son, shoving David backward against the wall. “You dumped us in a house where we weren't even wanted just so you could chase skirts in the city like a teenager!”

The living room erupted into chaos. Teresa was weeping loudly, cursing her son’s name while Arthur threatened to disown him on the spot. David was yelling back, trying to salvage a shattered narrative that was burning down around him in real-time.
I stood quietly by the mantelpiece, picked up my car keys, and watched them tear each other apart.
