Chapter 10 - The Ultimate VerdictThree days later, the grand ballroom of the Plaza Hotel was packed to absolute capacity.

It wasn't a social gala or a billionaire charity auction. It was an emergency press conference broadcast live across every major news network globally. Millions of viewers tuned in online, watching the unfolding corporate drama that had taken Wall Street by storm.
On the stage stood Daniel Vance, flanked by federal prosecutors and financial regulators.
Sitting in the front row, wearing a simple, elegant white dress, was Emily. Her head held high, her posture immaculate, she looked not like a former maid, but like the rightful heiress of a legacy reclaimed.
The doors at the back of the ballroom swung open.
Four federal agents marched in, escorting Margaret. Gone was the gentle, grandmotherly house manager; in her place was a broken, frantic woman in handcuffs, her face pale as she realized the cameras of the entire world were pointed directly at her.
As Margaret was led past the front row, she caught Emily’s eye. She stopped for a fraction of a second, her lips parting in silent terror as she realized the depth of the trap she had walked right into.
Emily didn't gloat. She didn't smile. She simply looked at Margaret with quiet, unshakable dignity—the exact same dignity her mother had carried out of this very building twenty years ago.
Daniel stepped up to the podium, tapping the microphone once. The murmurs in the massive hall instantly died down into absolute silence.
"Twenty years ago," Daniel's voice boomed through the speakers, steady and resonant, "an innocent woman named Elena Vance was driven from this company by greed, corruption, and engineered lies."
He turned his head slightly, locking eyes with Emily in the front row.
"Today, that injustice ends. Every fraudulent document has been exposed. Every co-conspirator—from the boardroom to the basement—is facing federal prosecution. And the name Vance has finally been cleared of the rot that tried to destroy it from within."
The room erupted into a deafening wave of applause. Flashbulbs blinded the stage as cameras clicked frantically, capturing the historic moment.
Later that evening, after the cameras had turned off and the chaos had settled, Emily stood on the private balcony of the Vance penthouse, looking out over the glittering lights of Manhattan. The wind ruffled her hair, carrying the sweet scent of a new beginning.
Footsteps approached softly from behind, and a warm, familiar jacket draped over her shoulders.
"Penny for your thoughts, Chief Compliance Officer?" Daniel asked softly, stepping up beside her and resting his hands on the balcony railing.
Emily turned her head, looking up at him with a soft, genuine smile. "I was just thinking... my mother would finally be proud."
Daniel reached out, gently taking her hand in his. His thumb brushed over her knuckles, warm and steady. "She is, Emily. She is."
He leaned in close, his voice dropping to a warm, intimate whisper against the cool night air. "Now... what do you say we finally take that proper first date? No boardrooms, no security footage, no traps."

Emily laughed, her heart light and free for the first time in her life. She squeezed his hand back.
"It's a date."
